Finally ready to pop the question to your significant other? If you’re reading this article, chances are you’re probably still undecided on how to come up with a memorable proposal idea. Perhaps this is a sign that a yacht charter might be the right idea for you! A yacht is a great option if you’re looking for a setting that is low-key but classy to indulge your loved one with. Boasting a private nautical ambience, proposals onboard a yacht are sure to be memorable and romantic. However, we also understand that planning a proposal can be stressful as you’d want it to be as perfect as possible. But don’t fret, we are here to help. Over the years, we’ve gained vast experience in hosting proposals so this post will serve as a one-stop guide on how you can plan a surprise wedding proposal onboard the yacht.
We will cover two main areas based on commonly asked questions that we received from past guests: 1) Logistics for the Proposal and 2) Chartering a Yacht.
Logistics for the Proposal
In terms of logistics, there are several key considerations to take note of. First, the decorations. You are able to come slightly earlier to decorate the yacht. For example, if your booking is the evening slot, 6pm-10pm, you can come 15 minutes earlier to decorate the yacht and start the charter at 630pm for instance. Decorations can be done in 2 areas of the yacht. One would be the open front deck on the exterior which is also the favourite spot onboard to get down on one knee. The other area is in the yacht’s interior where the master bedroom cabin is. We are able to accommodate most decoration types except for balloons as they are not permitted within the marina’s premises.

Second, our recommended time slot. We highly recommend the evening charter slot, 6pm-10pm. During this timing, you’ll get to experience cooler weather, appreciate a beautiful view of the sunset which starts from the comfort of the yacht and enjoy both the golden hour and blue hour. Definitely the perfect atmosphere to capture such a special and intimate moment.
Third, the recommended itinerary. For yacht charters in Singapore, the itinerary is typically to stop and drop anchor at Lazarus Island and remain there until it is time to head back to the marina. Why not make the proposal extra special by adding the City Skyline Cruise while the sun sets? The City Skyline Cruise offers uninterrupted views of Singapore’s CBD district and it’s also a good backdrop to propose to your sweetheart. Simply inform our team that you wish to propose while the yacht cruises past the city and we will make the necessary arrangements to our route to make this possible. We have included below a sample itinerary for ease of reference as well:

Fourth, photography. If you’re looking to hire professionals onboard to capture the proposal, please feel free to do so! We do work with a variety of experienced photography partners as well and can recommend some names to you if required. Otherwise, our Captain and crew are available throughout the charter and would be most happy to assist in taking the pictures for you.
Chartering a Yacht – The Basics
At this juncture, if you are starting to consider chartering a yacht for your surprise wedding proposal, you might still have some lingering questions: Where exactly is Lazarus Island? How does the yacht look like? How much does it cost? Is there F&B available onboard? Not to worry, we got you covered!
So where exactly is Lazarus Island? Lazarus Island is one of Singapore’s offshore islands and is situated adjacent to St John’s Island. Below is a map of the approximate route that the yacht would take from Sentosa to Lazarus (excludes the City Skyline Cruise):

The journey between Sentosa and Lazarus takes about 30 minutes one-way.
In terms of the yacht, we have one yacht under us presently, SunRise. It is a beautiful Lagoon 400 Catamaran that has hosted and witnessed many special milestone occasions over the years. If you’re thinking to invite your friends and families onboard to witness the special moment, SunRise has a licensed capacity of 18 guests.

If you’d like more information on the procedures to rent a yacht, please do check out our other blog post: A Simple Guide to Renting a Yacht in Singapore. In terms of costs, SunRise’s starting rates are quite affordable in comparison to the industry. More on our rates for different group sizes can be found here. For F&B, you can either bring your own food and drinks (no corkage fees) or you can cater BBQ and order drinks from us. Orders are to be made at least 5 days in advance so that we can prepare accordingly for you. Our BBQ and drinks menu can be found here.
